  • Use a lifeguarded beach. You are
500x less likely to drown on
    a lifeguarded beach.
  • Slip, slap, slop. Slip on a rash guard,
slap on a hat, slop on some SPF 30+
    sunscreen, even on cloudy days.
  • Check tide times. Don’t get surprised
    by rising water.
  • Things that sting. Check what wildlife
may be present like jellyfish and stingrays
before heading to the beach; learn how to
avoid it and what to do if injured.
  • Rip currents. Identify them before entering
the water (look for smooth water with no waves),
and remember to swim parallel to the beach if caught.
  • Watch the waves. Never swim alone, and designate
a water watcher, especially with kids present.
